About the Client

Sequence Green is a key delivery partner of the Green Cities and Infrastructure Centre of Expertise Programme (GCIEP), a demand driven program that supports the development of sustainable green cities and climate resilient infrastructure in lower income countries. As the flagship program of the UK’s GCIEP, the programme advances UK Government objectives by accelerating investment in responsible, inclusive, low carbon, and climate resilient infrastructure and urban development.

The Project

Sequence sought a Climate Finance Expert to support the Climate Finance Office within the Ministry of Economy and Finance in assessing and estimating the investment needs associated with Mozambique’s updated national climate commitments. This work focused on ensuring that proposed adaptation and mitigation investments were aligned with international climate finance best practices and underpinned by clear, credible financing strategies.

In delivering the work, the expert provided strategic guidance to both the Climate Finance Office and the Ministry of Land and Environment on the structuring and prioritization of climate investments. This included:

  • Reviewing and validating existing cost estimates
  • Estimating overall funding requirements, and providing targeted analytical inputs and technical advice to inform the national climate commitment review process
  • The expert also delivered recommendations to strengthen the financial credibility and feasibility of priority climate actions, while working closely with relevant public institutions and agencies to respond to evolving needs throughout the review process.
